What's included in the order?

Nine pieces: ladle, salad spoon, salad fork, slotted skimmer, three turners, a small wooden rest, and the cylindrical holder. Lengths run from the 24.5cm turner up to the 34cm frying turner, with the skimmer at 31cm and the ladle at 26.5cm. Weights range from 46g to 210g. All natural Thai teak, hand ground, vegetable oil surface, no synthetic coating

Will these crack or split like my last set?

That usually starts with water. Loose grained bamboo and generic wood drink it in, swell, then split at the handle. Teak grain is tight and takes on far less moisture, which is why it holds its shape better. Help it along: hand wash, dry it off instead of leaving it in the sink, and rub a little cooking oil over the wood when it starts looking dry

Does the wood smell or affect the food?

There is a faint natural wood and oil scent when you open the box, because the only thing on the surface is a vegetable oil rub. No lacquer, no synthetic sealer. Rinse each piece in warm water with mild soap and dry it fully before first use and the scent fades. Never soak them or run them through the dishwasher, including the holes in the skimmer

Nine tools, one material: solid Thai teak

You know the turner. The edge went soft and shiny the first time it leaned against a hot skillet, and it still goes into the eggs every morning. Every piece here is one solid block of Thai teak, hand ground and rubbed with vegetable oil. No nylon, no lacquer layer on the surface that meets your pan, so heat has nothing on the tool to soften or shed

If your last wooden set cracked, it was the grain

Bamboo and generic wood soak up water through a looser grain, which is why handles split and surfaces go grey and rough after a few weeks. Teak grain is tight, so it takes on far less moisture. The finish is vegetable oil rather than lacquer, so there is no coating to chip off. When the wood starts to look dry, a wipe of oil brings the color back

Stand them up, or hang them up

Every handle ends in a drilled hole, so tools can hang from a hook or rail instead of crowding a drawer. The cylindrical teak holder measures 13cm and weighs 210g. Because each piece is shaped by hand, lengths and weights vary slightly from one unit to the next, which is how hand ground wood arrives rather than a fault in your set
